Xbox finally settles the last legal challenge to its Activation Blizzard acquisition
Microsoft has finalized the last remaining legal challenge to its Activision Blizzard acquisition, nearly four-and-a-half years after the deal was first announced. The company reached a $250 million settlement with AP7, a Swedish pension fund also known as Sjunde AP-Fonden, which had filed a class action lawsuit in 2022.
The lawsuit sought additional compensation for Activision Blizzard shareholders who held stock between January 2022 and October 2023. Had AP7 prevailed, Microsoft would have been required to pay shareholders an additional 30 cents per share. The settlement effectively concludes one of the most legally complex acquisitions in gaming history, characterized by extensive regulatory scrutiny across multiple jurisdictions and various legal challenges.
In official documentation, Microsoft stated it is “entering into this Stipulation solely to avoid the burden, expense, and distraction of continued litigation,” indicating the company’s preference to resolve the matter and move forward with integrating Activision Blizzard’s operations and intellectual properties into its gaming division.
