Dark Scrolls delayed because of Mina the Hollower, but its devs have no hard feelings

Doinksoft’s indie title Dark Scrolls has been pushed from its original May 28 release date to June 22, 2026, to avoid direct competition with Yacht Club Games’ Mina the Hollower, which launches May 29. The decision reflects an emerging pattern in gaming where highly anticipated releases force smaller studios to reconsider their launch timing.

This situation mirrors events from the previous year, when Team Cherry’s surprise announcement of Hollow Knight: Silksong’s release date prompted multiple developers to delay their games. Notable casualties included the indie titles Demonschool and Baby Steps, both of which shifted their 2025 launch windows to make room for the highly anticipated sequel.

Mina the Hollower is Yacht Club Games’ long-awaited follow-up to the critically acclaimed Shovel Knight, while Dark Scrolls represents an original title from Doinksoft. Despite the scheduling conflict, both studios maintain a cordial relationship rooted in their shared appreciation for retro-inspired game design. According to communications with Polygon, Doinksoft expressed no animosity toward Yacht Club Games over the release date clash, suggesting an understanding of the realities of launch window planning in the indie space.

The delay underscores how blockbuster releases continue to reshape the release calendar, particularly affecting smaller independent developers who lack the marketing resources to compete directly with more established franchises.
