LittleBigPlanet Dev’s Next PS5 Game Could Have Open World Aspects

UK developer Media Molecule, known for LittleBigPlanet, is reportedly working on its next PlayStation 5 title, which appears to be moving away from the studio’s recent creative-engine focus toward a more traditional adventure format.

Details emerged from the resume of Senior Environment Designer Raphael Kidd, suggesting the upcoming game may feature open world elements. Kidd joined the project in April 2025 after the game transitioned from pre-production into full development, indicating the title is still in relatively early stages of active development.

The shift represents a significant strategic change for Media Molecule. The studio’s previous project, Dreams, was an ambitious creation engine that allowed players to build and share their own games. Despite its innovative approach, Dreams ultimately underperformed commercially, suggesting Sony and the developer are pursuing a more conventional game design with their next release.

An open world adventure game would mark a departure from Media Molecule’s historically experimental and player-creation-focused portfolio. However, as a first-party PlayStation studio, the game remains officially unannounced, with no confirmed details about its title, specific genre, or release window. The information discovered through Kidd’s professional profile represents one of the first concrete hints about the studio’s next major project for the PS5 platform.
