Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s is streaming, but here’s a clip you haven’t seen
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie continues Nintendo’s successful film adaptation efforts by drawing from the full breadth of the Super Mario franchise’s power-up catalog. Unlike the previous Super Mario Bros. Movie, which featured iconic power-ups like the Super Mushroom, Fire Flower, and Super Star, the Galaxy film expands its scope by incorporating power-ups from across multiple entries in the Mario series.
The film showcases both returning favorites and deeper cuts from the franchise history. Traditional power-ups like the Ice Flower and Super Mushroom make their return, while more specialized items including the Penguin Suit, Red Star, Cloud Flower, and Drill Mushroom feature prominently in action sequences. The filmmakers have also dug into Nintendo’s archives to include vintage power-ups such as the Frog Suit from Super Mario Bros. 3, the Cape Feather from Super Mario World, and the Blimp Fruit from Super Mario Galaxy 2.
This expanded power-up representation reflects the movie’s broader approach to incorporating more Nintendo characters and locations compared to its predecessor. The variety demonstrates the filmmakers’ commitment to celebrating the rich history of the Super Mario franchise. The Galaxy adaptation takes a more comprehensive approach to the source material, giving longtime fans more nostalgic moments while introducing newer audiences to the iconic items that have defined Mario gameplay across generations.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is currently available to stream.
