Tekken 8 Will Add Popular Character from Baki Anime Series

Tekken 8 will welcome Yujiro Hanma, the protagonist from the Baki anime series, as its fourth playable character addition in early 2027. The announcement was made during the Combo Breaker 2026 fighting game tournament, though no gameplay footage was included in the reveal trailer.

Yujiro Hanma is a fitting addition to the Tekken roster given the thematic similarities between both franchises. Both Tekken and Baki blend realistic martial arts with fantastical, larger-than-life characters who perform superhuman feats—from pulling helicopters in training to crushing diamonds with bare hands. This crossover brings together two fighting game universes that share an appreciation for both grounded combat mechanics and characters who transcend normal physical limitations.

The addition of Yujiro comes as the Tekken franchise enters a new chapter. Game director and producer Katsuhiro Harada, who had led the series for years, recently shared a farewell message marking his departure from the franchise. Despite this leadership transition, Bandai Namco has committed to continuing the series’ momentum, with plans to expand Tekken 8’s roster throughout 2027 and beyond.

This character announcement demonstrates the franchise’s strategy of bringing in recognizable faces from other anime and fighting properties to broaden appeal while maintaining the core mechanics and spirit that define Tekken’s competitive fighting game experience.
