BitSummit 2026 attendance breaks records, increases 17% to 68,208

BitSummit, Japan’s premier independent game festival, achieved record-breaking attendance in 2026, drawing 68,208 visitors to the event held in Kyoto at Miyako Messe. This represents a 17% increase from the previous year’s 58,065 attendees and a remarkable 77% growth over the past two years since the 2024 event drew 38,333 visitors.

The festival’s explosive growth can be attributed in part to Japan’s reopening of its borders to foreign visitors in 2023, following years of pandemic-related travel restrictions. The event drew exhibitors from around the world, with 125 general exhibitors selected from approximately 550 international entries, alongside 78 corporate exhibitors. Organizers reported significant attendance strain, with huge queues reflecting the festival’s growing popularity.

Held earlier than its traditional July scheduling, BitSummit 2026 reaffirmed its position as a major showcase for independent game developers. The festival continues to gain prominence as a platform for smaller studios and emerging talent in the gaming industry, attracting growing numbers of industry professionals and gaming enthusiasts alike.
