Denshattack preview: Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater but with TRAINS
Undercoders’ upcoming game Denshattack! channels the arcade energy of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater and Jet Set Radio into an unconventional train simulation. According to game director David Jaumandreu, the experience of riding high-speed rail for the first time directly inspired the project’s core design philosophy.
Set in a dystopian future where climate change has reached catastrophic levels, Denshattack! takes place in Japan where major metropolitan areas have been enclosed in protective domes and connected by expansive networks of high-speed trains. The game emphasizes speed and momentum, with Jaumandreu describing it as “the most ridiculously off-the-rails train sim ever developed.”
While comparisons to established titles highlight its style-focused arcade gameplay approach, Denshattack! maintains a distinct identity of its own. The Barcelona-based studio has crafted an unconventional entry in the simulation genre that blends environmental storytelling and climate anxiety themes into its world-building, challenging typical genre expectations.
