Discord boosts performance on Snapdragon X PCs by releasing a native Arm app

Discord has released a native app for Windows on ARM devices powered by Snapdragon X processors, eliminating the need for emulation and improving performance on the platform. The app is now available for download through Discord’s official website, though the company has not made an official announcement about the release.

Previously, Discord users on Windows on ARM systems like the ASUS Zenbook A16 had to choose between running the app through Microsoft’s Prism emulation layer or using the web browser version. The native ARM version addresses these limitations by allowing the application to run directly on the ARM-based processors without emulation overhead, resulting in better performance and more efficient resource usage.

This development is significant for the growing ecosystem of Snapdragon X laptops, which have gained prominence as Microsoft and device manufacturers push Windows on ARM as a viable alternative to traditional x86 processors. While Prism emulation has improved considerably in recent years, a native implementation provides a more optimal experience by avoiding the translation layer entirely.

The addition of native ARM support demonstrates Discord’s commitment to supporting emerging platforms and architectures, benefiting both Snapdragon X device users and the broader Discord community seeking seamless cross-platform access.
