Kelsey Grammer as Beast was peak X-Men casting
Beast was intended to appear in the 2000 X-Men film as one of the team’s founding members alongside Cyclops and Jean Grey. The character remained integral throughout X-Men comic history, including the influential 1990s animated series that heavily inspired the movie. Screenwriter David Hayter revealed that early drafts included Beast and the production team consulted with creature effects specialists including Jim Henson and Rick Baker to develop designs for the character. However, the film’s $75 million budget prevented the filmmakers from including Beast in the final version, forcing them to exclude the character despite his prominence in the source material.
