Another Throwback To Classic Pokémon Arrives On Switch Today

Team17 and Beehive Studios have released LumenTale: Memories of Trey, a new creature-catching RPG arriving on Nintendo Switch. The game arrives as part of a growing wave of indie titles designed to capture the essence of classic Pokémon games, particularly the Gen IV and V eras.

The game features 140 collectible creatures called Animon, complete with type-based weakness and strength mechanics. Core gameplay involves training and battling these creatures, with an art style that blends classic pixel art sprites with 3D environments.

Beyond standard creature-catching mechanics, LumenTale distinguishes itself through expanded systems including cooking and crafting, which appear to play a more prominent role than in traditional Pokémon games. The release reflects an ongoing trend where indie developers are stepping in to provide experiences aligned with earlier Pokémon games, as The Pokémon Company has largely moved away from the series’ classic formula in recent years.
