Hundreds of Marvel Rivals cheats named and shamed in “an immediate, targeted purge”

NetEase has executed what it calls an “immediate, targeted purge” against cheaters in Marvel Rivals, permanently banning 485 accounts and three devices following a surge in cheating activity after a weekend update. The update, deployed on May 21, 2026, apparently introduced exploits that cheaters quickly capitalized on, with some players brazenly streaming their cheating exploits to audiences while promoting cheat software and targeting high-rank players.

The publisher’s telemetry systems detected players using “third-party enhancements” in the days following the update. By May 25, NetEase had issued the bans and made the enforcement action public, posting what it called “receipts” of the cheating accounts as part of a wider warning to the community. The company framed the action as part of its “Zero Tolerance on Cheats” policy.

While the ban wave represents a significant enforcement action—with nearly 500 accounts removed from the game—the community has expressed that more needs to be done. Notably, only three hardware bans were issued alongside the account bans, and players have been vocal about wanting stricter measures against cheaters. The incident underscores ongoing challenges for live-service games in combating cheating and maintaining fair play, particularly when exploits emerge shortly after updates.
