Report: Latest Nintendo Switch 2 production estimates contrast hardware forecast
Nintendo is planning to significantly increase Switch 2 production despite expecting year-over-year sales decline. The company aims to produce approximately 20 million units during fiscal year 2027 (ending March 31, 2027), representing a 20% increase over its publicly announced sales forecast of 16.5 million units.
This production estimate contrasts with Nintendo’s more conservative sales outlook, which reflects anticipated declining demand as the console enters its second full year on the market. The discrepancy suggests Nintendo is preparing for potential upside in consumer demand while hedging against supply constraints.
The Switch 2 has demonstrated strong performance since its June 2025 launch, accumulating 19.86 million units sold globally—already outpacing the original Switch’s launch period performance. Despite this success, Nintendo’s sales forecast predicts a decline from the console’s initial year, attributed to market saturation and the typical post-launch sales curve expected for hardware.
Nintendo notes that production volumes remain subject to adjustment based on actual market demand, indicating flexibility in their manufacturing plans. The decision to maintain higher production capacity than projected sales suggests confidence in the console’s sustained appeal.
