RIP: After 20 Years, It’s Time to Say Goodbye to the Nvidia Control Panel

Nvidia has officially retired its GeForce Control Panel application after 20 years of service to Windows PC gamers. The retirement became effective with Game Ready Driver 610.47, which removed the familiar right-click desktop shortcut that users have relied on for GPU driver settings and optimization. All major Control Panel features have been successfully ported to Nvidia’s redesigned Nvidia App, which offers a more modern interface and expanded capabilities compared to the aging original tool.

The transition was announced by Nvidia over two years ago as part of a broader initiative to modernize its software tooling for GeForce users. The company has spent the intervening period migrating all actively supported Control Panel features to its new application. While the new Nvidia App is objectively more capable and visually appealing than the Control Panel’s dated interface, the retirement marks the end of an era for PC gamers accustomed to quick desktop access to critical driver and performance settings.

The news accompanies new driver releases that add support for several games including 007 First Light, Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, F1 25: 2026 Season Pack, and World of Tanks: Heat. Users can access all previously available Control Panel functionality through the updated Nvidia App going forward.
