Oner Shockingly Won’t Appeal His Asian Games Omission
T1 jungler Mun ‘Oner’ Hyeon-jun announced he will not appeal South Korea’s decision to exclude him from the 2026 Asian Games roster. The three-time League of Legends World Champion’s omission from KeSPA’s selection surprised many in the competitive community, as his place was instead given to Gen.G’s Kim ‘Canyon’ Geon-bu.
The roster decision drew criticism from Gen.G’s CEO, who objected to KeSPA’s methodology of using in-game statistics without proper context when evaluating players. Despite this concern, Canyon was ultimately selected over Oner for the Asian Games squad.
Korea’s Asian Games 2026 League of Legends team features a strong lineup of five players, including three who have previously won gold medals at the event. The roster consists of T1’s Choi ‘Zeus’ Woo-je, Gen.G’s Kim ‘Canyon’ Geon-bu, DRX’s Kim ‘Zeka’ Geon-woo, T1’s Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok, and T1’s Lee ‘Gumayusi’ Min-hyeong.
For Korean esports professionals, Asian Games competition carries significant implications beyond sporting glory. A gold medal victory grants exemption from South Korea’s mandatory military service—a benefit that makes participation particularly meaningful for eligible players. Oner’s decision not to challenge the roster selection, despite not receiving a spot, suggests acceptance of the committee’s final determination, even as concerns about the selection process persist within the professional community.
