GTA 5 Unofficial RageMP Mod Ordered to Shut Down by Take-Two

Take-Two Interactive has issued a cease-and-desist order forcing the shutdown of RageMP, a popular Grand Theft Auto 5 multiplayer modding platform, effective August 31, 2026. The publisher cited FiveM as the only authorized platform for GTA 5 multiplayer modding under their Platform License Agreement (PLA).

RageMP’s forced closure follows Rockstar Games’ acquisition of Cfx.re in August 2023, which established FiveM as an official part of the company. With that acquisition, Rockstar and Take-Two formalized their policy restricting multiplayer modding to FiveM exclusively. RageMP’s admin team announced the structured shutdown in a forum post, requesting all server owners to make necessary arrangements as the platform winds down operations.

The decision marks a consolidation of the GTA modding ecosystem under official ownership, limiting community-developed alternatives. While FiveM remains accessible as the approved platform, RageMP’s closure removes a significant competitor in the multiplayer modding space and gives Rockstar tighter control over the official GTA 5 multiplayer modding experience.
