Donkey Kong 64 Finally Joins Nintendo Switch Online

Donkey Kong 64 is joining Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack on June 4, 2026, marking another addition to the platform’s growing library of classic Nintendo 64 games. The release brings the Western catalogue to 43 N64 titles, with 45 available globally when including region-exclusive releases.

Originally developed by Rare and released in November 1999, Donkey Kong 64 has long been requested by fans and represents a significant addition to Switch Online’s library. The game is a sprawling 3D platformer built on the same engine as Rare’s acclaimed Banjo-Kazooie series, featuring an expansive open-world design filled with collectibles.

Players can choose from five Kong family members—Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Tiny Kong, Lanky Kong, and Chunky Kong—each with unique abilities as they work to rescue the Kong family from the villain King K. Rool and his Kremling crew. The game is particularly notable for its collectible-heavy gameplay, requiring players to gather numerous items throughout its levels to progress.

This addition marks the first mainline 3D Donkey Kong adventure available through Switch Online’s service. While Donkey Kong Bananza (released in 2025) represents the franchise’s more recent major 3D entry, it remains separate from this classic library addition. The release continues Nintendo’s ongoing effort to expand its subscription service’s catalogue of retro titles, though fans remain eager for further announcements regarding additional N64 releases and broader Nintendo Direct presentations.
