Netflix’s Dorohedoro season 3 officially announced following season 2 finale
Toho announced that Dorohedoro season 3 is officially greenlit and currently in production at Mappa studios, confirmed immediately following the season 2 finale. Director Yuichiro Hayashi shared a special illustration featuring the character Haru to commemorate the announcement.
The renewal arrives as welcome news for fans facing the prospect of another prolonged wait between seasons. The original series experienced a six-year gap between seasons one and two; with season 3 already in production, the wait for new content should be significantly shortened.
Season 2 has established itself as one of 2026’s standout anime projects, successfully returning audiences to the series’ distinctive world—a seedy, macabre environment suffused with smoke and darkness. Mappa has demonstrated remarkable skill in adapting Q Hayashida’s notoriously challenging manga source material, which is renowned for its gritty, bleak tone and explosively creative artwork. The studio’s ability to balance the demands of faithful adaptation with quality execution across animation, direction, and visual storytelling has earned critical acclaim.
The announcement’s timing is strategically placed to capitalize on peak fan enthusiasm following the season 2 finale. By confirming production was already underway, Mappa signals commitment to maintaining franchise momentum and preventing the extended gaps that previously plagued the series’ release schedule.
Dorohedoro continues to demonstrate that anime adaptations of visually experimental and thematically complex manga can achieve both critical success and dedicated audience support when helmed by capable studios. The season 3 greenlight solidifies the franchise’s future and offers assurance that its distinctive creative vision will continue reaching audiences.
