Hideo Kojima finally gets to go to space—but only in an AI-generated ad for Prada

Hideo Kojima, renowned video game designer, has created an AI-generated short film advertising Prada Mode, the luxury fashion brand’s invite-only pop-up nightclub. Working alongside Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn, the six-minute film depicts both as space travelers in retro silver suits who crash-land on an alien planet before heading to New York’s Chelsea Hotel, where Prada Mode’s inaugural event is taking place.

The project represents an unexpected embrace of generative AI from Kojima, who has joined the venture despite widespread skepticism in the creative community toward AI-generated content. A 90-second teaser shared on social media sparked significant backlash from gaming fans and online communities who expressed disapproval of the gaming icon’s involvement in the commercial venture.

The collaboration showcases how artificial intelligence is increasingly being utilized in advertising and celebrity partnerships, even as concerns about AI-generated content—often referred to as “AI slop”—continue to grow among audiences and creators alike.
