Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus 2 review

Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus 2 is a turn-based tactics strategy game from developer Bulwark Studios and publisher Kasedo Games. The game is a sequel to the original Mechanicus, an “excellent” and “evocative” entry in the 40K game catalog that combined strategic gameplay with thematic writing.

According to PC Gamer’s review, Mechanicus 2 is a “decent” strategy game, though it doesn’t quite capture the distinctive atmosphere of its predecessor. The original was praised for its strong sense of atmosphere—accentuating the spookiness of the Warhammer 40K universe and the moral contradictions of its protagonist faction through both narrative and mechanical design. Players controlled tech-priests on missions to explore tombs and recover lost technological knowledge.

The sequel is priced at $36 USD (£31.50 GBP) and is available now on Windows 11. The game does not support multiplayer or Steam Deck, limiting its accessibility compared to some modern strategy titles.
