Kingdom Come Dev Teases Lord Of The Rings Game And Next Kingdom Come Project

Warhorse Studios, developer of the acclaimed Kingdom Come: Deliverance series, has officially confirmed it is developing multiple new games simultaneously. The studio is working on both a new entry in the Kingdom Come universe and an ambitious open-world RPG set in Middle-earth based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings franchise.

The next Kingdom Come game is scheduled for release during Warhorse’s next fiscal year, placing it between April 2027 and March 2028. While the studio stopped short of explicitly calling it “Kingdom Come: Deliverance 3,” it is being developed as an “open-world RPG” and described as a “new Kingdom Come adventure.” According to Warhorse communications director Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, the team plans to continue expanding the Kingdom Come universe with this new project.

The Lord of the Rings game, currently untitled, has been described as an “open world Middle-earth RPG.” While the specific era or setting within Tolkien’s world remains unclear, the game is expected to follow the design philosophy and template established by Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Warhorse has emphasized that the project is an “absolute passion project” that will be “deeply immersive” and built “in a very specific Warhorse way.” The studio has stressed that it is making the games it wants to make, suggesting creative freedom under parent company Embracer Group.

Few additional details have been revealed about either title at this stage. The simultaneous development of these two major open-world RPGs demonstrates Warhorse’s expanded ambitions and team capacity following the critical success of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
