Poll: Pictonico Is Out Now, What Are Your First Impressions?

Nintendo has launched Pictonico!, a new mobile game app available on iOS and Android that channels the playful, chaotic energy of WarioWare. The game invites players to put their own photos through a series of surreal, time-based minigames, where they must manipulate the images within strict time limits. Tasks include making faces eat kebabs, lick lollipops, or get their hair lathered up in soap—all with a silly, surreal twist.

The free demo version includes three minigames, providing a taste of the experience at no cost. For players who want more, Nintendo offers two additional “Volume Packs” containing 80 additional challenges available for purchase, positioning the game as a freemium title.

The launch is noteworthy given Nintendo’s general retreat from smartphone gaming over the past decade. While the company found moderate success with mobile titles earlier in the 2010s—including a Shigeru Miyamoto-directed Super Mario platformer—Nintendo has largely abandoned the space, with mobile gaming becoming a rare venture. Pictonico! marks a surprising return to the category, though its exact purpose within Nintendo’s broader strategy remains unclear.
