Planet Zoo 2 finally revealed after much teasing, with an autumn release date, aquatic and flying species, and the ability to conserve outside of your zoo

Frontier Developments has announced Planet Zoo 2, the long-awaited sequel to its 2019 zoo management simulation. The sequel launches October 13, 2026, across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S—marking the first time a mainline Planet Zoo title releases simultaneously on console and PC platforms.

The most significant additions are aquatic and flying animal species, introducing aviaries and aquariums as new enclosure types. Aquatic animals include black-tipped reef sharks, hawksbill turtles, and various fish species, while bird inhabitants feature the toco toucan and secretary bird. Beyond traditional zoo management, players can now build wildlife reserves where animals roam freely in natural habitats.

Frontier describes Planet Zoo 2 as a “generational leap forward in animation and animal behaviour,” featuring substantially improved visuals and more sophisticated creature AI. The sequel emphasizes conservation gameplay, allowing players to restore natural habitats and release animals into wildlife preserves—expanding gameplay scope beyond the original’s zoo-focused approach. The announcement follows nearly seven years since the original Planet Zoo’s 2019 release.
