Tekken 8 Really Is Getting Back on Track After a Truly Terrible Start to the Year
Tekken 8 is bouncing back after a severely troubled first half of 2026. The Season 3 update released in March faced overwhelming player criticism, primarily because it failed to reverse or adequately address the deeply controversial gameplay changes that Season 2 had introduced the previous year. In some cases, the patch actually worsened existing problems, triggering significant backlash from the competitive and casual communities alike.
The negative reception was so severe that Bandai Namco and the Tekken development team felt compelled to make a public apology and announce a revised update schedule with more frequent patches. Following through on that commitment, the team delivered patch 3.00.02 roughly one month after Season 3 launched.
Now, patch 3.01 has arrived alongside the return of popular DLC character Kunimitsu. The update is being received as another meaningful improvement, suggesting the franchise is finally moving in the right direction. The developer’s responsiveness to feedback and faster patch cadence appear to be successfully rebuilding player confidence after what threatened to be a career-damaging year for the fighting game title.
