007 First Light truly ’earns the number’, as critical acclaim leads to impressive sales milestone in just 24 hours

IO Interactive’s James Bond origin story, 007 First Light, has achieved a significant commercial milestone with 1.5 million copies sold in its first 24 hours across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store). This makes it the fastest-selling game in IO Interactive’s history, outpacing all previous releases including their Hitman franchise.

The sales figure excludes the Nintendo Switch 2 version, which is scheduled for a summer release. According to Alinea Analytics estimates, at least one-third of the initial 24-hour sales came via Steam on PC. Geographically, the US leads with 29% of Steam players, while China represents the second-largest market at 18%.

007 First Light has also garnered critical acclaim, achieving an 87 Metacritic score—the highest rating any IO Interactive game has received to date. The title marks the best-reviewed James Bond game in three decades, with IGN awarding it 9/10. The positive reception reflects IO Interactive’s focus on delivering an authentic Bond experience.

Player engagement remains strong on Steam, with a peak concurrent player count of 68,477 and approximately 32,511 players active simultaneously. Analytics indicate substantial overlap with IO Interactive’s Hitman player base, with roughly one-third of First Light players having previously engaged with the Hitman series.

IO Interactive has confirmed plans for post-launch content expansion, particularly focusing on the TacSim mode, which allows developers to remix existing levels. The studio characterizes the game’s launch as merely the beginning of its lifecycle, intending to deliver ongoing content updates through sandbox-focused features similar to their Hitman titles.
