Balatro publisher Playstack is being sold to GameSpot and Fandom parent company
Playstack, the publisher behind indie hits including Balatro, Abiotic Factor, and The Case of the Golden Idol, is set to be acquired by Integrated Media Company (IMC) in a deal announced on May 21, 2026.
TruFin, Playstack’s current owner, has agreed to sell its 84.5% stake to VantageCo, a subsidiary of IMC, for approximately £112.4 million in net cash proceeds. The total enterprise value of Playstack has been set at £125 million ($169 million). The remaining equity stake and loan repayment constitute approximately £15.6 million.
The acquisition is subject to shareholder approval, and TruFin’s board has recommended shareholders vote in favor. IMC, owned by private equity firm TPG, also controls entertainment brands including Fandom, GameSpot, Screen Junkies, and Fanatical.
Playstack claims an 85% hit ratio across its portfolio. The acquisition represents significant consolidation within the gaming industry, bringing the acclaimed independent publisher under the same ownership structure as major gaming media and retail platforms.
