“We’re Working With Nintendo To Get This Fixed” - Stray’s Free Switch 2 Upgrade Is Missing

Annapurna Interactive’s acclaimed cat platformer Stray launched on Nintendo Switch 2 this week, but players who already own the game on the original Switch discovered that the promised free upgrade path was unavailable at launch. The publisher had announced plans to offer a 100% owners discount for those who had purchased Stray digitally on Switch 1, allowing them to upgrade to the Switch 2 version at no cost (with the exception of Japan).

The missing discount was traced to a backend error on Nintendo’s eShop storefront that prevented the discount from being automatically applied during purchase. Annapurna Interactive quickly issued an apology for the inconvenience and confirmed they are actively coordinating with Nintendo to resolve the issue. According to the publisher’s statement, the fix is expected to be implemented within the next few days.

The incident represents a minor stumble in what has otherwise been a successful multiplatform release strategy for Stray. Originally released in 2022 to critical acclaim as a PlayStation exclusive, the game has since been ported to multiple platforms, with this Nintendo Switch 2 version representing the latest expansion of its audience.
