Mina The Hollower Is Now Metacritic’s Highest-Rated Game Of 2026

Mina the Hollower, a new 2D action-adventure game from Yacht Club Games (creators of indie classic Shovel Knight), has become Metacritic’s highest-rated game of 2026. The PC version holds a 92/100 score on Metacritic, surpassing Forza Horizon 6 (91/100) and placing it above Pokémon Pokopia and Resident Evil Requiem (both 89/100). The game also scores 93/100 on OpenCritic.

The game has now launched across multiple platforms including Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 1 & 2, and PC via Steam, making it widely available following its critical acclaim. The Zelda-style adventure is designed to appeal to fans of classic Game Boy Color games and the Legend of Zelda series, representing an unlikely indie challenger to major AAA franchises in 2026’s competitive game year.

2026 has already proven to be a strong year for gaming releases, with multiple notable launches including Forza Horizon 6 and Resident Evil Requiem. However, Mina the Hollower’s rapid ascent to the top of Metacritic’s rankings demonstrates the continued strength of indie developers in creating critically acclaimed experiences that can compete with major studio releases. Yacht Club Games’ pedigree with Shovel Knight appears to have contributed to expectations and critical reception for their latest project.
