A Minecraft Movie 2 Gets Official Title Ahead of July 2027 Premiere

The sequel to the 2024 Minecraft film, A Minecraft Movie Squared, has been officially announced with a confirmed release date of July 23, 2027. The title was revealed during Minecraft Live May 2026 at TwitchCon Europe, with the cast—including Jack Black (Steve), Jason Momoa (Garrett), Danielle Brooks (Dawn), and Kirsten Dunst (Alex)—appearing in a behind-the-scenes video from the New Zealand set.

The announcement included several exciting details about the film. New cast member Matt Berry also introduced himself to audiences. The movie will feature new biomes and mobs from the base game, expanding the Minecraft world on screen. Additionally, Mojang Studios launched a build challenge running until June 8, inviting players worldwide to create and submit custom builds for a chance to have their creation featured in the film.

The production team includes producers Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Roy Lee, Eric McLeod, Kayleen Walters, Torfi Frans Ólafsson, Jason Momoa, and Jill Messick, with executive producers Jay Ashenfelter, Jen Conroy, Brian Mendoza, Jon Berg, and Jonathan Spaihts. The fitting title “Squared” is a playful reference to Minecraft’s iconic voxel-based cubic aesthetic.
