Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will fix something players hated years ago

Infinity Ward has acknowledged that the movement mechanics in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022) received negative feedback from players, and the studio is working to address these complaints in the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

According to Mark Grigsby, co-studio head at Infinity Ward, the developer “got kind of dinged” on movement in Modern Warfare 2, noting that the studio removed certain mechanics and freedom that players had previously enjoyed. The feedback prompted the team to reconsider their approach for the next installment.

Grigsby discussed the movement redesign in the latest episode of “From the Ward,” a behind-the-scenes YouTube documentary series chronicling the development of Modern Warfare 4. The revelation shows that Infinity Ward is taking player feedback seriously as it iterates on the franchise’s core gameplay mechanics.

This correction represents an important adjustment for the Call of Duty franchise, as movement and mobility are fundamental to player experience and competitive play in first-person shooters. The studio’s willingness to revisit and revise these mechanics demonstrates an effort to create a more satisfying gameplay experience for its player base.
