The Asus ROG Ally X20 Finally Gets The Upgrade Fans Have Been Asking For
Asus announced the ROG Xbox Ally X20 at Computex, marking a significant upgrade to its handheld gaming PC line. The device features a 7.4-inch OLED display running at 120Hz with a 1080p resolution—a major improvement over the previous 7-inch IPS LCD screen. The new OLED panel delivers 1,400 nits of brightness in HDR mode, supports Dolby Vision, carries a VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 1000 certification, and includes an anti-reflective coating that reduces glare by 65%. The screen also boasts an ultra-fast 0.2ms response time.
Beyond the display, the X20 introduces several hardware refinements. The device features a new translucent plastic shell design with black and gold theming, GuliKit TMR drift-resistant joysticks, and a transforming eight-direction D-pad. Reviewers praised the new aesthetic, more comfortable grips, and improved controller layout with adjusted bumper and trigger positions.
The X20 comes bundled with ROG XReal R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses as a special 20th-anniversary edition package. The internal hardware remains largely similar to the previous ROG Xbox Ally X, meaning the OLED screen and ergonomic improvements are the primary updates for this refresh. It remains unclear whether Asus will offer the X20 as a standalone purchase or exclusively through the bundle with the AR glasses.
