CD Projekt begins “most intensive phase” of Witcher 4, expands team to over 500 devs
CD Projekt has entered the “most intensive phase” of development for The Witcher 4, expanding its development team to 513 developers. The expansion represents a significant investment in the project as the studio accelerates work on the highly anticipated fourth mainline installment in the legendary RPG series.
During a financial results presentation, joint CEO Michał Nowakowski reaffirmed the company’s commitment to releasing three new Witcher games over a six-year period, with The Witcher 4 slated to launch first. This strategic plan marks a shift in CD Projekt’s approach to the franchise: the upcoming trilogy will “most likely not release expansions,” contrasting with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s model of substantial post-launch content.
This decision comes as CD Projekt postponed a new Witcher 3 expansion originally scheduled for 2026 release. The company cited the desire to “achieve the best possible result from the consumer standpoint” as the reason for the delay, suggesting a strategic reallocation of resources toward The Witcher 4’s development.
The team expansion and intensive development phase indicate CD Projekt’s confidence in the project and its determination to deliver a substantial next-generation entry to the franchise, while shifting away from the expansion model that characterized Witcher 3’s post-launch years.
