Matt Berry won’t tell us who is he playing in the A Minecraft Movie sequel, but at least the film has an official release date

The upcoming sequel to last year’s box office success A Minecraft Movie has received an official title and release date. Now formally known as A Minecraft Movie Squared, the film is scheduled to premiere on July 23, 2027. The announcement was made during Minecraft Live, accompanied by behind-the-scenes promotional footage.

The sequel will reunite stars Jack Black and Jason Momoa, who will reprise their roles as Steve and Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison respectively. Comedian Matt Berry, who played a villager character in the original film, is also returning, though his new role remains undisclosed. Berry was originally scheduled to play Steve in the first movie but had to accept a smaller part due to scheduling conflicts.

According to producer statements, the sequel will explore “new biomes, new characters, and new mobs,” building on the foundation of the first film. Production is currently underway in New Zealand, with the filmmaking team working to expand the scope and scale of the original movie.
