Infinity Ward sneakily offers first look at Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer gameplay, and apparently it’s all about movement now

Infinity Ward has revealed the first gameplay footage of Modern Warfare 4’s multiplayer through its documentary series “From the Ward.” The second episode, “Philosophy of Multiplayer,” showcased the game’s core design philosophy centered on movement mechanics, with developers emphasizing player freedom in how they approach gameplay.

A standout feature unveiled in the episode is Kill Block, a dynamically-designed multiplayer map that represents a significant evolution in Call of Duty level design. Unlike traditional static maps, Kill Block is designed as a “living” map that changes its layout and design with every playthrough. The map comprises three interconnected sections that can be configured in over 500 different combinations, ensuring players encounter fresh experiences even when replaying the same location.

Studio MP Creative Director Geoff Smith emphasized the studio’s ambition to take map design “to the next level,” asking “What if we just made one that was living and it keeps changing every time you play it?” This innovative approach aims to maintain gameplay freshness and provide extended replayability.

The reveal also highlighted other development aspects, including a redesigned character model for Ghost and campaign development that reportedly returns the series to its roots. Infinity Ward has positioned Modern Warfare 4 as a fresh entry in the franchise while maintaining core Call of Duty elements.
