The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition continues to cause headaches as Obsidian somehow botches free upgrade deployment on consoles

The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition continues to plague players more than three years after its early 2023 launch, with Obsidian Entertainment struggling to execute a promised free upgrade path on consoles.

Obsidian announced that the original version of the RPG would be delisted on May 27th, with players directed to the current-generation Spacer’s Choice Edition instead. As part of this transition, the developer offered a free upgrade to all players who owned the base game across all platforms. However, the deployment of this upgrade on consoles has experienced significant problems, leaving players unable to access the improved version they were promised.

The Spacer’s Choice Edition itself has been troubled since its release, launching with numerous issues that required fixes over the following months. The botched console upgrade deployment represents another setback for what was meant to be a clean migration to the newer version, raising questions about Obsidian’s quality assurance processes for a title that should have been stable by now.
