Pokemon Trading Card Game Is Reprinting One Of Its Rarest Cards Later This Year

The Pokemon Company has announced “30th Celebration,” a new Trading Card Game expansion celebrating the franchise’s 30th anniversary, launching worldwide on September 16. The set marks an unprecedented move by making all cards foil cards, creating an entirely holographic booster experience.

Each booster pack will contain five foil cards and one foil basic energy, alongside one of 30 unique Pikachu cards, each illustrated by a different artist. The set introduces a new rarity type called “Futuristic Rare,” featuring Pokemon illustrated by renowned Japanese artist Yoshirotten with striking artwork depicting “hope toward an unknown future.” Mew and Mewtwo are the first Pokemon to receive this new rarity designation.

The expansion features numerous reprints of iconic cards from the TCG’s history, including the highly sought-after Base Set Charizard and Pikachu and Zekrom-GX from Sun and Moon—Tag Team. The full set is expected to contain approximately 160 cards based on revealed set numbers. While these reprinted classic cards will be included, they will not be legal in standard Pokemon TCG competition formats.

The 30th Celebration set represents a nostalgic celebration for longtime fans who experienced the original card game craze when the TCG first launched, offering another chance to hunt for rare and iconic cards from across three decades of the franchise’s history.
