Review: Pokémon Game Music Collection: Game Boy Jukebox - A Pointless Trinket Even Fans Will Grow Bored Of Swiftly
Nintendo and The Pokémon Company released a Game Boy Jukebox to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Pokémon series. The device is a miniature replica of the original monochrome Game Boy handheld and comes bundled with 45 tiny cartridges, each playing a different song from the 1996 Pokémon debut game on Game Boy. The player is battery-powered (three LR44 button cells) and serves as what The Pokémon Company describes as “an audio tour through Kanto,” the original game’s region.
The novelty music player appears designed primarily as a nostalgia-driven collectible for longtime franchise fans. However, according to a Nintendo Life review, the product falls short of its ambitions. The reviewer criticizes it as a “pointless trinket” that even dedicated Pokémon enthusiasts will likely tire of quickly. Despite its appeal as a nostalgic novelty item and the care taken in its design and presentation, the limited functionality and replay value make it a questionable purchase for most players.
