The First Pokémon Champions VGC Regional-Winning Team

Arsal Puri has won the Indianapolis Regional Masters VGC Championship, taking first place at the inaugural major Pokémon Champions tournament. In a dominant performance, Puri defeated popular competitive Pokémon content creator Wolfe ‘Wolfey’ Glick with a clean 2-0 sweep in the finals.

Glick employed an unconventional team featuring Mega Steelix and Sharp Beak Talonflame, a combination that proved troublesome for many of the tournament’s top competitors. Despite the innovative strategy, Puri’s experience and decision-making proved superior in the championship matchup.

Puri’s victory was aided by both skillful play and favorable fortune during critical moments. His Charizard—equipped with Charizardite Y and running Heat Wave, Solar Beam, Weather Ball, and Protect—survived a crucial attack with just 1 HP remaining, a pivotal turning point in the match. This highlight underscores the role that random number generation plays in competitive Pokémon alongside strategic gameplay.

Puri’s championship team also featured Sinistcha, holding a Kasib Berry and equipped with Matcha Gotcha, Rage Powder, Trick Room, and Protect. The victory marks a significant achievement in the competitive Pokémon VGC scene and establishes Puri among the top-tier players in the format.
