Marvel Fans Disappointed as Today’s Big Avengers: Doomsday Tease Appears to Be a Pop-Up Coffee Shop
Marvel fans expressed disappointment after a highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday tease at SXSW London turned out to be a promotional campaign for a Doctor Doom-themed pop-up coffee shop.
The “Dom Latveria Coffee” outlet, a rebranded Flying Horse Coffee location in Shoreditch, east London, opened near the SXSW London festival where Avengers: Doomsday directors Joe and Anthony Russo were scheduled to appear. The coffee shop’s Doctor Doom branding and timing led fans to speculate it was connected to an upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe reveal.
The campaign was promoted by Donald Mustard, former chief creative officer of Epic Games. Rather than unveiling new details about the anticipated Avengers: Doomsday film, the tease merely advertised a temporary coffee establishment, leaving fans disappointed and questioning future Marvel marketing initiatives. The incident highlights the risks of ambitious viral marketing campaigns when they fail to deliver substantive content alongside thematic reveals.
