Backrooms Sequel in the Works
Following a blockbuster theatrical debut, a sequel to the Backrooms film is in active development. Director Kane Parsons announced the project after the original film earned nearly $120 million worldwide in its opening weekend and set a new record for the best A24 release ever.
While the sequel remains officially ungreenlighted for production, Parsons is already seeking a writing partner to develop the next installment. This suggests that Will Soodik, the sole credited writer on the original film, may not return for the sequel. Soodik had previously taken over writing duties from Roberto Patino, who penned the initial drafts.
Parsons confirmed that the film’s ambiguous ending was intentional, explaining that Backrooms “has always been planned to be more of a series that goes outside the confines of this film.” The director stated he is “definitely not done” with the franchise, indicating that the theatrical debut represents only the beginning of a broader narrative scope he intends to explore further.
