Dave the Diver PS5 Prequel Puts the Spotlight on Bancho the Chef, and It Looks Cool as Hell
A prequel to the popular game Dave the Diver was unveiled during Sony’s recent State of Play presentation. Titled Bancho the Chef, the game follows the origin story of Bancho, one of the standout characters from the original game, as he embarks on a culinary journey across Asia to master the art of cooking.
Unlike Dave the Diver’s signature pixel art style, Bancho the Chef adopts a low-poly 3D aesthetic while maintaining the same charming tone. The gameplay offers varied experiences, featuring cooking minigames as a core element alongside other activities including dishwashing, fishing, and petting cats—elements that align with the original game’s quirky charm.
The announcement has generated positive reception, with particular appreciation for the focus on Bancho, who is regarded as one of the best characters in the original Dave the Diver. The prequel aims to tell his formative story and explain how he developed into the skilled culinary expert players encounter in the main game.
