Bungie Fans Have Taken Over Sony’s State Of Play Broadcast To Demand Destiny 3

Fans of the long-running live-service shooter Destiny 2 staged a coordinated campaign at Sony’s State of Play broadcast in June 2026 demanding the announcement of Destiny 3. The push came just days after Bungie announced that the next update for Destiny 2 would be its final content drop.

As early as three hours before the broadcast began, thousands of players had already gathered in the chat, with messages like “Save Destiny!” and “We Want Destiny 3” appearing frequently. When the stream started, the sentiment intensified, with fans flooding the chat throughout with the hashtag #WeWantDestiny3.

Over 300,000 people have signed a petition calling on Sony to greenlight Destiny 3. However, Sony’s State of Play provided no such announcement. According to Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, Bungie hasn’t yet greenlit a successor project for the Destiny 2 team. The studio is currently reviewing pitches for new projects, which may or may not be set in the Destiny universe.

The campaign highlighted the anxiety of the Destiny 2 community following the announcement of the game’s final content update. While fans had hoped the State of Play event might include a surprise announcement about Destiny 3, the event proceeded without any such reveal, leaving the future of the franchise uncertain as Bungie determines what project the Destiny 2 team will transition to next.
