Keychron’s on-the-fly optical/Hall effect mouse switch is taking on Logitech over one of the few things people didn’t like about the SuperStrike

Keychron has introduced MagOptic, a new mouse switch technology unveiled at Computex that combines Hall effect and optical sensing capabilities. The primary innovation allows users to switch between sensing methods on-the-fly via web application software, directly addressing criticized limitations in Logitech’s SuperStrike mouse design.

The MagOptic switch maintains standard mouse functionality regardless of which sensing technology is active. This ensures users who prefer traditional optical or Hall effect sensing exclusively can still benefit from the hardware, while offering flexibility to those who want to alternate between modes depending on use case or preference.

Keychron CEO Nick Xu revealed that MagOptic switches are already being integrated into the company’s office mouse lineup. The switches perform as conventional mice for users who don’t utilize the switching feature, indicating successful backward compatibility and minimal learning curve for adoption.

First revealed approximately one month before Computex, the MagOptic technology represents Keychron’s competitive positioning against established peripheral manufacturers. The dual-sensing approach offers potential advantages across gaming and productivity applications, where different sensing technologies provide varying levels of precision, latency response, and reliability.

This development reflects ongoing competition in the gaming peripheral market, where manufacturers continue innovating to address specific user complaints and performance requirements that competitors have overlooked.
