LEGO Pokémon Expands With 12 Smart Play Sets, Featuring Pikachu, Charizard and More

LEGO has officially unveiled its highly anticipated Pokémon Smart Play collection, featuring 12 new buildable sets equipped with the company’s innovative Smart Brick technology. The announcement confirms months of speculation and leaked details about the interactive toy line.

The full range launches on August 1, 2026, with all sets available for pre-order starting immediately. Featured Pokémon include Pikachu, Charizard, Mewtwo, Umbreon, Garchomp, and Jigglypuff, among others. The sets vary significantly in scale and complexity, ranging from the compact 88-piece Jigglypuff Concert to the larger 831-piece Umbreon vs. Garchomp Championship Battle.

The Smart Bricks enable interactive gameplay experiences, allowing the buildable Pokémon models to rumble, speak, and display emotional reactions when moved or placed near each other. However, the Smart Brick technology is only included in two core sets—the Pikachu and Charizard models—with other sets remaining cheaper alternatives that still respond to the smart bricks when in proximity.

This represents the second generation of LEGO’s Smart Play system, following the March 2026 launch of Star Wars sets. While the Smart Play technology showed promise during its CES showcase, reviewers noted that the initial Star Wars implementations fell short of expectations, offering limited interactive features primarily consisting of sound effects and visual feedback. The Pokémon sets promise expanded functionality, including training and battling mechanics between different buildable creatures.

The expansion into Pokémon marks LEGO’s push to leverage major entertainment franchises with its emerging interactive toy technology, blending physical construction with digital interactivity for a modern play experience aimed at collectors and younger audiences alike.
