Mattel’s debut firstparty game is Masters of the Universe tie-in Skeletor: Until Next Time
Mattel has launched its first self-published mobile game, Skeletor: Until Next Time, marking the toy company’s entry into first-party game development. The title is a lane-runner game styled after Subway Surfers and ties into the Masters of the Universe film releasing June 5, 2026.
Developed by Mattel Game Studios in partnership with outsourcing firm Amber, Skeletor: Until Next Time is now available on iOS and Android. The game represents a significant shift for Mattel, which has historically licensed its intellectual properties to third-party developers rather than publishing games directly. This launch signals the company’s strategic move into the gaming industry as a publisher.
The release comes as part of Mattel’s broader gaming expansion. Earlier in 2026, the company partnered with Canadian studio Uken to release Mattel Match, a 3D match-3 puzzle game featuring multiple Mattel brands including Barbie, Hot Wheels, and Uno.
Mattel Game Studios plans to release at least two games in 2026, with the second title yet to be announced. The studio’s decision to develop and publish games internally suggests Mattel is investing in building gaming expertise and controlling the creative direction of its IP adaptations in this growing entertainment sector.
