Microsoft is making a Surface mini PC for AI developers: Meet the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, featuring 128GB RAM and one petaflop of AI compute power
Microsoft has announced two new Surface products powered by NVIDIA’s RTX Spark superchip, targeting AI developers and computational workloads. The Surface RTX Spark Dev Box is a compact mini PC designed specifically for developers running sustained AI workloads, featuring one petaflop of AI compute power and 128GB of RAM with a 100W thermal envelope. Coming later in 2026, it represents Microsoft’s first venture into the Surface mini PC market.
Additionally, Microsoft unveiled the Surface Laptop Ultra, its most powerful Surface laptop to date. The device is powered by NVIDIA’s RTX Spark superchip and Windows on Arm architecture. The laptop boasts the most ports, best display, and largest trackpad ever included on a Surface device, representing what the company describes as a “feat of engineering.”
A hands-on reviewer who tested an early sample unit at Computex 2026 expressed strong enthusiasm for both the design and performance capabilities, particularly highlighting the impressive capabilities of the RTX Spark platform through multiple demonstrations. The Surface Laptop Ultra is also scheduled for release later in 2026.
Both products represent Microsoft’s push into AI-focused computing hardware, leveraging NVIDIA’s latest RTX Spark technology to position Surface devices as platforms for AI developers and computational work.
