Mina the Hollower sells 300,000 in 3 days, Yacht Club Games is saved
Yacht Club Games, the indie studio behind the acclaimed 2014 platformer Shovel Knight, secured its near-term survival through the strong debut of Mina the Hollower. In December 2025, founder Cris Velasco characterized the game as “make-or-break” for the studio’s future, stating that the company’s viability depended on achieving substantial sales figures.
Mina the Hollower met and exceeded those targets upon release. The game sold 300,000 copies within its first three days, surpassing the 200,000-copy threshold that Velasco had previously described as “really, really great.” This performance provides crucial financial breathing room for the independent studio and validates its development efforts following the long shadow cast by Shovel Knight’s enduring success.
While the strong launch indicates near-term stability, Velasco’s cautious qualifier—“for now, at least”—suggests that the studio’s long-term prospects remain dependent on sustained sales and future project success. Mina the Hollower’s performance represents a rare indie studio success in an increasingly challenging industry landscape.
