Onimusha: Way of the Sword gets September release date, and a playable demo available right now
Capcom has announced that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will release on September 25, 2026, across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The announcement was made during PlayStation’s June 2026 State of Play showcase, alongside the immediate availability of a free playable demo.
The demo grants access to one of the opening stages, allowing players to experience the action-RPG gameplay before the full release. Pre-orders are now live at £64.99 / $69.99 across platforms. The Xbox version is an Xbox Play Anywhere title, meaning players who purchase on Xbox console will receive a complimentary PC copy.
Way of the Sword marks the fourth mainline entry in Capcom’s long-running Onimusha franchise, which originally debuted on PlayStation in 2001. The new installment represents a significant return for the series, arriving over two decades after 2006’s Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams. Set in 16th-century Japan, the game combines action-RPG gameplay with the series’ signature demon-hunting combat.
The announcement included a new cinematic trailer featuring detailed visuals and combat sequences.
