PlayStation State of Play live report - all of today’s news from Sony’s 2026 summer showcase

Sony Interactive Entertainment hosted its June 2026 State of Play livestream on Tuesday, delivering over 60 minutes of announcements and gameplay reveals from more than 20 games across first-party and select third-party studios.

The showcase opened with an extended gameplay presentation for Marvel’s Wolverine, Insomniac’s upcoming superhero action game, featuring over seven minutes of brutal combat and combo systems. The game is scheduled for September 2026 release.

Major reveals included the official announcement of God of War: Laufey, the next main entry in Santa Monica Studio’s flagship franchise, arriving “coming soon” to PlayStation 5. Another significant highlight was the reveal of Until Dawn 2, officially announced 11 years after the original game, with a 2027 release window. The showcase also featured new looks at Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet alongside announcements for third-party titles including Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Silent Hill: Townfall, Rayman Legends: Untold, Control Resonant, Ace Combat, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword.

The event arrives at a pivotal moment for PlayStation. While the PS5 maintains market dominance, rising hardware costs and underperformance of the platform’s live-service game strategy have raised questions about Sony’s direction. The strong first-party showing and breadth of announcements suggest PlayStation is emphasizing quality single-player and narrative-driven experiences.
