For the first time in its 25-year history, Runescape comes to PlayStation 5 this year with survival game RuneScape Dragonwilds
RuneScape is coming to console for the first time in its 25-year history. Jagex announced during Sony’s June 2026 State of Play that RuneScape: Dragonwilds will launch on PlayStation 5 in Fall 2026, marking a landmark expansion of the iconic franchise beyond PC gaming.
The open-world survival crafting spinoff will be available on day one through PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscriptions. Designed for 1-4 player cooperative play, the game is set on the Ashenfall continent from RuneScape lore, where players must gather, craft, build, and master magic-based survival mechanics to ultimately confront the Dragon Queen.
The title has already demonstrated strong market reception on PC, launching in Early Access on Steam in April 2026. It has sold over 1 million copies and maintains an 81% user approval rating on the platform. This successful early performance on Steam appears to have driven confidence in the console port, with Sony securing day-one inclusion in its subscription service.
The PS5 release represents a significant strategic shift for Jagex, extending RuneScape’s reach to console audiences who may not engage with traditional PC MMORPGs. By leveraging PlayStation Plus’ extensive subscriber base, the company can introduce the RuneScape universe to millions of new players simultaneously. The announcement underscores growing publisher interest in bringing established PC franchises to console markets, particularly through subscription services that remove friction from player adoption.
