Tekken 8 game director Kohei Ikeda has left Bandai Namco
Tekken 8 game director Kohei Ikeda has departed Bandai Namco after two decades at the Japanese company. Ikeda, who co-directed the fighting game and its predecessor Tekken 7, announced his departure via social media, stating he is pursuing “new challenges” beyond his tenure with the studio.
In his announcement, Ikeda reflected positively on his time at Bandai Namco, describing it as a “dream come true” while acknowledging both the rewarding and challenging aspects of his work. He credited the development team and the broader gaming community for their support, criticism, and encouragement throughout his career, noting that these experiences collectively helped advance both his professional growth and the Tekken franchise itself. Prior to his prominent role in the Tekken series, Ikeda also contributed to the development of Bandai Namco’s Soulcalibur franchise.
The departure marks a significant transition for one of the fighting game community’s most influential figures. Ikeda’s leadership has been central to Tekken 8’s development and commercial success, making his exit noteworthy for the franchise’s future direction and the company’s ongoing projects.
